Mubadala, in partnership with Global Infrastructure Partners, a part of BlackRock, invested in Perdaman’s US$4.2 billion Western Australia Urea Project - the largest such facility in Australia and one of the biggest urea fertilizer plants globally.

This investment underscores Mubadala’s commitment to developing future-focused industrial infrastructure that addresses global supply chain needs in a more sustainable way.

Expected to produce over two million tons of urea annually, the facility represents the largest investment ever made in the Australian fertilizer sector. It will significantly reduce the country’s reliance on imports, localize production, and enhance food security for up to 90 million people by ensuring a stable, high-quality fertilizer supply for farmers.

Perdaman will integrate advanced technologies to optimize energy efficiency and minimize emissions. The plant will displace imported coal-based urea and adopt clean technologies, including solar energy and green hydrogen, as part of its pathway to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

For Mubadala, this investment reflects a long-term strategy to back essential manufacturing platforms that support socioeconomic development and accelerate sustainability transitions. By enabling domestic production of a critical agricultural input, the project enhances Australia’s agricultural resilience while aligning with Mubadala’s focus on scalable, lower-carbon industrial assets that deliver both impact and value.
